Spain wins doubles for 2-1 lead vs. Germany

Spain, which is playing without Rafael Nadal for the second time in three contests due to knee tendinitis, can wrap up its 16th straight home win on Sunday when Tommy Robredo is scheduled to face Andreas Beck in reverse singles.

Verdasco, who beat Beck in Friday's opening singles, is set to play Philipp Kohlschreiber in the final singles match on the outdoor clay at the Puerto Banus bullring.

After taking the first set, Spain stumbled late in the second frame and surrendered a 5-2 lead as Germany rallied with a break of serve to set up the tiebreaker.

The Spanish duo faltered again in the third-set tiebreaker as Germany saved a match point before converting their first set point.

The Spaniards then took a 3-0 lead in the fourth set and held on from there, with Verdasco serving home the match.

The winner will play Israel in September after it reached its first ever semifinal by securing an insurmountable 3-0 lead over Russia
