Anil Ambani foregoes salary, yet is top paid

Second richest Indian Anil Ambani has foregone salaries and commissions from his group companies for 2008-09 as part of austerity measures although he will still get over Rs 50 crore as sitting fees and previous-year commissions. In the process he has foregone over Rs 50 crore.

As Chairman of five of his group's listed companies -- Reliance Communications, Reliance Capital, Reliance Power, Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Natural Resources Ltd -- he was paid a total of Rs 52.078 crore during the last fiscal as sitting fees for the year and as also commissions for previous year 2007-08, representing an annual increase of nearly Rs 10 crore.

The total amount paid to Anil Ambani in 2008-09 exceeds the same for any other executive by the companies which have furnished the remuneration details for their top executives during the latest fiscal.

This is despite the industrialist foregoing any salary or commissions from all these companies, and the remuneration during the year only comprises sitting fees for attending the board as a director and the payments towards commissions for the previous fiscal 2007-08.

During 2007-08, Anil's elder brother Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman and MD of Reliance Industries, was the top-paid executive in the country with total remuneration of Rs 44.02 crore. However, Mukesh Ambani's remuneration for 2008-09 is not known as RIL is yet to come out with its balance sheet for the year.

Shriya got the dress code from Sarath!

We may recall the incident when Shriya turned-up for a public function in a skimpy attire and stirred the air. It’s notable that our CM Kalaignar M Karunanidhi and other bigwigs of the state were present for the occasion.

Now it’s said that our CM will grace the audio launch function of Sarath Kumar’s most awaited film ‘Jaggubhai’. The film is directed by K S Ravikumar in which Shriya plays Sarath’s daughter and debutante Sreesha plays his wife.

The audio and trailer launch of the film is scheduled to happen on September 27 (Tomorrow) in Anna Arivalayam.

It seems that Sarath Kumar wanted to avoid any trouble during the function and advised Shriya to dress in a sari or any respectable clothing. Recently when Shriya attended a public event with politician MK. Stalin, the government had sent her a notice regarding the dress code, time in advance.

‘Jaggubhai’ is about a gangster turning into a good-hearted man. This mass entertainer is said to have highlighted more on father-daughter relationship.

Surely a fatherly advice to the actress…

Kamal better than Bala?

R. Murugan is the new entrant in the list of modern writers jumping into cinema. With ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ as his entry ticket, he has made the world turn around to his dialogues.

Murugan’s dialogue for ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ is a big plus for the film. Significance of his dialogues that touched many sensitive issues with sophistication was also mentioned, at least once in every single review.

In spite of his voguish-cum-refined work in the movie, the hoardings, ads, opening credits and posters of the film did not have the dialogue writer’s name on them. The writer’s close circle is unhappy about the whole story. Kamal who respects talent has shunned Murugan’s name all over, except in the rolling credit that comes after the show.

However Murugan does not seem to bother about all these happening around him, the writer met director Bala yesterday. Heard that Bala was impressed by the serious comedies that was sprinkled in ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ and wanted to meet the talented writer.

It’s worthy to mention that Bala’s ‘Naan Kadavul’ was a clear inspiration of Jayamohan’s ‘Ezhavathu Ullagam’.

“Bala never mention Jayamohan’s name anywhere even for the sake of graciousness, Kamal is far better than him,” was the comment given by Murugan’s buddies.

The writer might as well and may as well choose Kamal over Bala. But all we say - Art can float by itself… What say Murugan?

Three AI flights cancelled as some pilots start agitation

Three Air India flights, including one international flight, were on Saturday cancelled due to an agitation called by a section of the national airlines' pilots to protest the up to 50 per cent reduction in their productivity-linked incentives (PLIs).

Air India's flights to Mumbai and Kabul were cancelled this morning as the pilots did not report for duty, airline officials said. The passengers of the cancelled flight to Mumbai have been accomodated in the next flight while those going to Kabul have been lodged in a hotel.

A section of Air India Executive pilots had last night threatened to go on the agitation to protest the reduction in their productivity-linked incentives (PLIs).

Representative of executive pilots Captain Bhalla had said that "the executive pilots have taken a decision to go on strike because nobody is in state of mind to work due to the salary cuts. Starting now, we will not work."

Official sources said the executive pilots were taken on board over the PLI reduction and their move was surprising. There are 300 executive pilots in the national carrier and since they are part of the airlines management, they cannot form a union and also cannot go on strike, official sources said.

Citing the massive cut in their PLI as the reason for the strike, Bhalla said, "With a stroke of a pen, the CMD Arvind Jadhav has cut 70 per cent salary of all the Executive pilots with 50 per cent being evident and 20 per cent hidden."

"He is trying to hire foreign pilots at the rate of $13,500 and wants us to work for peanuts," he alleged. Bhalla alleged that the Chairman had not discussed the salary cuts with executive pilots. Bhalla alleged that the Chairman had not discussed the salary cuts with Executive pilots.

As the executive pilots have decided to go ahead with their agitation from tomorrow, the operations of Air India flights would be disrupted, said Capt Bhalla. Bhalla, commander of an Airbus 330 aircraft, alleged that he and other pilots were not paid their flying allowances for the past two months by the airlines management and had just recieved Rs 6,000 as salary this month.

Meanwhile, another pilot union, Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) has decided to extend their support to the agitation by the executive pilots and said they will not cooperate with the airlines management. "We will not cooperate with the management, in case we are called in to replace any of the agitating pilots. And if management takes any action against any one of them, then we may also join the agitating pilots," a ICPA source said

Abdul Kalam advises ISRO, NASA on Chandrayaan-II

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and US space agency NASA should deploy surface robotic penetrator in 'Chandrayaan-II' mission to study more about the presence of water molecules on moon, former President APJ Abdul Kalam has suggested.

"I suggested to both ISRO and NASA to work on future mission of Chandrayaan-II using moon surface robotic penetrator during my recent visit to California Institute of Technology in US, where NASA scientists presented the findings of Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3) to Indian scientists," Kalam told students during an interaction today.

The missile man was here to inaugurate the national science seminar on 'Chandrayaan: Promises and Concerns' for school students, organised by the National Council of Science Museum. He said more validations are being carried out by the scientists on India's Moon Impact Probe (MIP) about the presence of water on lunar surface.

Kalam told students that he had also suggested space scientists to make spacecrafts weighing one-kilogram by 2050 to cut costs and bring it down to USD 2,000 from USD 20,000.

India's own device MIP on 'Chandrayaan-I' detected the presence of water on lunar surface, a finding confirmed by NASA which also had an instrument on board the craft.

The MIP while descending from Chandrayaan-I to moon, picked up strong signals of water particles giving a clear indication that hydroxil (OH) as water molecules are present on the surface.

Long live the Ever-Green Hero – Dev Anand

His on-screen body language has been serving mimicry artistes or any performer for that matter. His mannerism attracted one and all, and people immediately identify them if someone tried to imitate him. A cap and shawl around the neck are still considered the metaphors for him.

Think Dev Anand and several memorable melodies will come down tumbling from your mind. Most of his movies were not only subject-worthy but also gave soulful songs. “Gata Rahe… Mera Dil” – from ‘Guide’. An exemplary work of Dev saab, the movie hit off well with the people then and also a favourite of contemporary times for many. It feature the impressive storyline and carried equally remarkable songs.

‘Jewel Thief’, ‘Prem Pujari’, ‘Johny Mera Naam’, ‘HarĂ© Raama HarĂ© Krishna’, ‘Heera Panna’, ‘Munimji’, ‘C.I.D.’, ‘Paying Guest’ are some of his noteworthy films. Numerous accolades and awards. Dev Anand added a charisma to the Hindi cinema with his distinct style and talent. But sadly his persona failed to keep up with the times and slowly faded from the scenario. Yet remain invisibly active behind the scene.

Video: Sony Ericsson Satio unboxed, demonstrated with the utmost care

is like, what, just under a fortnight away? But we know good and well that's not making it any easier to wait for Sony Ericsson's 12.1 megapixel Satio to launch across the pond. If you're eager to live vicariously through a well-connected individual over on YouTube, you can hop on past the break right now to see the phone unboxed (in all three colors, no less) and detailed to a level that only a true SE fanboy could treasure. And that includes you, over there in the closet.

Ballmer: Windows Mobile 7 should have been out, like, yesterday

It wasn't all that long ago that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer proudly declared that Windows Mobile 7 would be out "sometime next year," but it looks things got a bit more real at the company's just-concluded Venture Capital Summit, where Ballmer reportedly said that he wished Windows Mobile 7 had already launched by now. That initial word comes from venture capitalist Paul Jozefak (or @pjozefak), who also tweeted that "Ballmer says they screwed up with Windows Mobile," while another attendee, @beninato, directly quotes Ballmer as saying that Microsoft has "pumped in some new talent," and that "this will not happen again." Steve Ballmer's fists could not be reached for comment.

Video: Phoenix Instant Boot BIOS starts loading Windows in under a second

Phoenix is showing off a few interesting things at IDF, but the real standout is their new Instant Boot BIOS, a highly optimized UEFI implementation that can start loading an OS in just under a second. Combined with Windows 7's optimized startup procedure, that means you're looking at incredibly short boot times -- we saw a retrofitted Dell Adamo hit the Windows desktop in 20 seconds, while a Lenovo T400s with a fast SSD got there in under 10. It's pretty slick stuff, and it should be out soon -- check a video after the break.

Entelligence: Have we demonized DRM?

Entelligence is a column by technology strategist and author Michael Gartenberg, a man whose desire for a delicious cup of coffee and a quality New York bagel is dwarfed only by his passion for tech. In these articles, he'll explore where our industry is and where it's going -- on both micro and macro levels -- with the unique wit and insight only he can provide.
There was a lot of discussion when Steve Jobs wrote his famous letter about DRM a few years ago. I think the letter and the timing were brilliant back in the day and it put the issue of DRM squarely where it belongs, with the content companies and not companies such as Apple or Microsoft. I agree with the overall assertion that companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Real will sell more songs without DRM. But there's more to the story, and asking consumers about DRM is a loaded question. The analogy best given to me by one of my non-digerati friends is asking, "would you rather get 3 slices of pizza for $5, or all you can eat at a buffet for $5?" The vast majority will likely opt for the latter, even though that same vast majority will still only eat three slices.

Ben Heck throws together one-handed Xbox 360 controller, probably with one hand

Ben Heck. Just the mere mention of the name brings chills to the spines of all who mod, and if today's the first day you've ever come into contact with those seven letters, prepare to be changed. Forever. The Great Modder's latest gig involved the creation of a one-handed Xbox 360 controller, but the catch was that it required completion within a ridiculously short period of time. Essentially, the left analog stick was repositioned to fit on the underside of the controller, enabling the user to operate that with his / her leg while handling the right side of the pad as usual. Check out a video of the admittedly raw looking final product after the break, and feel free to grab some inspiration while you're there.

ASUS Eee Top ET2002T and ET2203T touchscreen all-in-ones land in October

Looks like we've got ourselves another Windows 7 launch, folks. The Eee Top ET2002 and ET2203, which have graced these pages with their touchscreens before, have ironed out an all-too-familiar launchdate (October 22nd) and some fairly competitive Europe prices, weighing in at £559 and £819, respectively. That's roughly $893 and $1,312 US, but usually the UK to US conversion on these is dramatically less than the true conversion rate (though we feel rather bad for the folks in the UK, in our own patronizing, American sort of way). Either way we're happy to see NVIDIA ION popping up again, and the whole concept of a low-end touchscreen PC is certainly intriguing with Windows 7 along for the ride.

Champions Trophy: Pakistan's Aamer has eyes on Tendulkar's wicket

Aamer made an exciting debut for Pakistan in the World Twenty20 championship in England in June last year and has already emerged as a key players in the Champions Trophy with some excellent bowling in its opening match against West Indies Wednesday.

The youngster has now set his eyes on taking the prized scalp of Indian cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar.

"Tendulkar's wicket is a dream wicket for any bowler in the world," Aamer said. "I would love to take his wicket because he is such a great player. I want to get him out early because if we do that, our chances of beating Indian will greatly improve."

The left-armer said he has already prepared a plan to dismiss Tendulkar with the new ball.

"I have got a plan for him but it will all depends on how the wicket at Centurion behaves. If the pitch provides some assistance I would be able to execute my plan," he said

Shiney Ahuja breaks down in court, medical treatment ordered

A fast track court Friday directed the jail authorities to provide immediate medical relief to Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja, arrested for allegedly raping his maid, on his application seeking treatment. The 36-year-old actor was seen crying and wincing in pain following a slip disc problem when he was produced in the fast track court here.

Ahuja, who was unable to walk, was assisted into the court room by two constables. He was later brought outside and made to sit on a bench where he lay down, quivering following which his lawyer Sameer Nagre moved an application seeking medical treatment at the earliest.

The court directed the jail authorities to provide the actor immediate medical relief and shift him to J J Hospital if necessary for further treatment.

The court was expected to pass an order today on the application filed by Ahuja's lawyer seeking copies of the forensic report but the matter has been adjourned till October 7.

Rajini and Kamal are the captains!

We ought to point out about Captain Vijayakanth’s good job while he was the President of Nadigar Sangam. Of course people, the politician turned actor has nulled the 10 years long debt that was lying on Nadigar Sangam during his time.

Now it’s time for the present day president Supreme Star Sarath Kumar to prove himself. He is facing a big challenge of flattening the Nadigar Sangam building fully to build a multiplex theatre, a marriage hall, a shopping mall in an area of 1 lakh and fifty thousand square feet. Account balance of the association is just 3.5 crores and the interest from this amount is used to give pension for the retired artists. Another noteworthy point mentioned during a meeting was that the number of pensioners has increased to 2800. So, the amount needed to fund them each month alone would be 15 lakhs!

While the situation is like this the president (Sarath Kumar) decided to collect funds for the construction of the new complex. Guess what? When Sarath Kumar approached the bigwigs of our industry, Rajini and Kamal they both requested him not to suggest an idea to conduct shows overseas.

But then our Supreme Star did not seem to loose heart; he made arrangements to carry out a star cricket match in Singapore and Chennai. And the shocker of this news is that Rajini and Kamal must be the captains of the teams…

Wowee... Aren’t your heads spinning guys? Same is ours …

But then a small disappointment, our big captains will be seen sporty only in Chennai…

Phew… lets get ready for this real Start Sport!

Nitin to face acid test today

The new movie ‘Rechipo’ is all set to hit the screens today. This one has youth star Nitin and film industry folks say that this is no less than an acid test for him.

Apparently, Nitin has not been able to score a single hit over the past few years and though he has been appearing with movies, the success mark is nil.

He is pairing up with Ileana this time and the film has been produced by G V Ramana while Paruchuri Murali is the director.

The audio release got a decent response to the tunes composed by Mani Sharma.

Nitin from his end is said to be counting all his lucky stars and is positive that this one would give him the much needed break. Good luck for this folks!!!

Hansika loses weight

The apple pie beauty Hansika Motwani has done quite a few movies in Telugu. She has been popular for her innocent looks and her charming smile. However the actress faced some criticism lately about her weight gain.According to sources, she has lost all those additional kilos she gained. She apparently looks hot as ever if not more. She is working on a Telugu flick at the moment and her hero is none other than energetic star Nandamuri Kalyanram.

Hansika seems to have offers from Bollywood as well. Sources also indicate that she is getting from other industries and only time will tell if she will take them up or not.

More for ‘Moscowin Kaveri’ girl

Even before her debutant venture ‘Moscowin Kaveri’, directed by cinematographer Ravi Varman hit the screens, model-turned-actress Samandha has three films on hand in Tamil.

She will be seen with Narain in ‘Pookadai Ravi’ and with Murali’s son Adharva in ‘Baana’. ‘Pookadai Ravi’ is produced by Radhika’s Radaan while ‘Baana’ by Sathyajothi Films.

Meanwhile, the big buzz is that Samandha has been roped in by Goutham Menon for his forthcoming Telugu film, which has Tollywood top hero Nagarjuna’s son Naga Chaitanya as hero.

The movie is said to be a remake of Goutham’s yet-to-be-completed Tamil venture ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’, starring Silambarasan and Trisha in lead roles. Both the versions have musical score by A R Rahman.

Yuvraj out of CT, Virat named replacement

The stylish left-hander, who picked up the injury during a training session today, has been advised rest for six weeks and will return home.

Delhi middle order batsman Virat Kohli has been named as Yuvraj's replacement.

"Yuvraj Singh has fractured a finger in his right hand and has been ruled out for six weeks. The selectors have chosen Virat Kohli as replacement for Yuvraj Singh," the BCCI said in a statement.

"He will fly out as soon as formalities are completed," it added.

India will open their campaign against arch rivals Pakistan on September 26.

The left-hander was attended to by physio Nitin Patel before he proceeded for a medical examination which revealed that he had fractured his finger.

India are already an injury-hit side going into the tournament, missing the services of star opener Virender Sehwag, who is nursing a shoulder problem.

Sehwag's fellow opener Gautam Gambhir was also nursing a groin strain ahead of the tournament. Gambhir did not play in the team's only practice match against New Zealand.

Pacer Zaheer Khan is also missing from action due to an injury.

Yuvraj was enthusiastically taking part in the fielding session at the University Ground here. But in the process, he ended up hurting his right finger so badly that he couldn't participate in the batting and bowling sessions which were conducted later in the day.

Chandrayaan-1 spotted water on moon: Report

Data from the spacecraft also suggests water is still being formed on the moon, the British newspaper said.

"It's very satisfying," the newspaper quoted Mylswamy Annadurai, the mission's project director at the Indian Space Research Organisation in Bangalore, as saying.

The newspaper said the breakthrough would be announced by the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration on Thursday.

NASA's website says it will hold a media briefing at 1440 EDT on Sept. 24 to "reveal new scientific findings about the moon" from data collected during national and international space missions.

The unmanned Indian craft was equipped with NASA's Moon Mineralogy Mapper.

South filmmakers in Bollywood

B-Town has been a land of paradise for the South Indian filmmakers who’ve constantly found their lucky lot over here. Be it Manirathnam or Ram Gopal Varma, the filmmakers have been reigning with their mighty stroke over these years.

Gradually, the entry of South Indian filmmakers is becoming more and more these days. It was all illustrious with Aamir Khan Starrer ‘Ghajini’ directed by A.R. Murugadoss. The filmmaker made a spellbinding debut in Bollywood and now he’s all set to commence his next untitled project with South Indian star Surya in lead role (trilingual project in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu).

Next to follow him, was Vikram K Kumar who shot to fame with a phenomenal supernatural thriller ‘13B’. Perhaps, it wasn’t a triumph merely in India for the film is ready for Hollywood remake as the rights has been acquired by Weiner Company.

Last but not the least is Prabhu Deva who has tasted success with Salman Khan Starrer ‘Wanted’. Sallu Bhai who was much desolated in spirits with continuous flops has witnessed tremendous opening at box office with this film.

Apart from filmmakers, eminent technicians of South Indian Film Industry have indeed spelled the best works in Bollywood. Be it art director Sabu Cyril or stupendous cinematography Ravi K Chandran: these personalities have redefined the existing technologies with their innovative approach.

Let’s not forget the Madras Mozart A.R. Rahman who comes up with merely 2 albums a year and keeps topping the charts with it.

Yanthram’s blazing climax

The shooting of Shankar’s ‘Yanthram’ is fast approaching its climax! Currently the team is busy in putting its heart and sweat into the making of the movie’s climax.

Being the significant part of the movie, the scene features a fire bursting out of a scientist’s laboratory. This is said to be only a 4-min scene, however an elaborate set has been erected in the city’s Prasad Studios.

The production team has specially flown down few Hollywood visual effects companies to supervise this fire scene. This expertise will decide as to how and where special effects would be applicable while editing later.

Now, did you know that this is something new and done for the first time in our Indian cinema? Well, this method was earlier followed by a famous American filmmaker George Lucas in several Hollywood flicks of his times. Shankar had recently highlighted the importance of special effects and graphics in movies.

A dedicated man he is, our Superstar has insisted on staying on the sets, to see the shooting; although he has no role to play in it.

Hmm, now if such interesting things are happening on the sets, one would be really thrilled to experience the happenings live! Ri

My Name Is Khan on a swimming spree

Water has always been a source of thrill and… trouble for some. The team of Karan Johar’s 'My Name Is Khan' is enjoying the watery days, both inside and outside the film sets. While its pouring cats-dogs outside, its equally water-jammed on the shooting sets of this movie.

Enclosed within the premises of Film City, the crew are having troublesome time shooting inside three feet deep water. The scene, which features a flooded New York, has been impressively recreated the foreign location at a whopping amount and planning. It is said that artificial rains are used thus adding more inconvenience to the shoot. Even the cameras were not spared; they had been positioned underwater to capture scenes below the water.

The real rains had also found its way into the sets, helping the team to get a natural effect. As for the cast of the movie, they are really said to be braving the water shoot. Our King Khan seemed to have gone all frog-skinned due to the long stay in waters. He has been even nicknamed as Mermaid by the people on the set. But along with the water, SRK has seemed to be taking it sportingly. After Shah Rukh, Jimmy Shergill will soon dive into the schedule to finish his round of shooting.

Hmm, our only concern is that hope all the people involved here would come out fit and fine.

‘Wanted’ gets green signal from the Court

The air has been cleared and issues have been settled. The most anticipated Boney Kapoor’s movie ‘Wanted’ has finally received the Court’s consent to hit the screens on September 18.

The Salman Khan-Ayesha Takia starrer has been produced by Sridevi Productions, which has now coughed up around Rs. 2 crores to get a clearance for its release.

The movie had received a stay from Bombay High Court after a case was filed by Mumbai-based G.G. Photo Ltd, demanding refurbishment of Rs. 9 crore from its producers towards financial assistance rendered and supply of raw film stock to the Productions. However, Boney Kapoor sought help from Supreme Court. And as a result he has been directed to deposit a minimum amount now, and the remaining at later date.

‘Wanted’ would now see a worldwide opening on 18th of this month in peace. The original versions, both Telugu and Tamil, were runway hit, now let’s wait to see whether it recreates the same success.

John hurt, director suffers

Hook Ya Crook’ would have been among the 2009 movie list, had John Abrahm, its hero, not met with a leg injury during the shoot. This David Dhawan direction was slated for a December release but has now been shifted to March next year.

‘Hook Ya Crook’ is said to be a comedy based on cricket. The hero is supposed to be doing a lot of running and playing, which at this juncture John won’t be able to do. Now, the director has nothing else to do but wait for the actor’s leg to heal. The shooting will resume once John is fit enough, and David had discussed this with the production house, which into turn extended the releasing date.

But some sources say that John is unhappy with the outcome of the movie and so he doesn’t want to the movie to release as yet. He wants to time it in such a way that he has another release quickly after it, to dilute the effect. Consequently he is not giving dates to wrap up the post works. But we can’t confirm as to how far this is true.

Produced by Ronnie Screwvala, ‘Hook Ya Crook’ stars Shreyas Talpade, Kay Kay Menon and Genelia D'Souza, besides John Abraham. Insiders say that the movie will also feature some of popular Indian cricketers.

Get well soon Johnny boy!

Govt to import 50 lakh tonnes of raw sugar

Regarding the requirement of sugar to import, I understand that 24 lakh tonnes of raw sugar has already been imported and that contracts are almost finalised for another 26 lakh tonnes of raw sugar,” agriculture minister Sharad Pawar on Thursday told at the Annual General Meeting of the National Federation of Co-operative Sugar Factories.

India, also the world’s largest sugar consumer, is importing raw sugar as production is estimated to decline at 150 lakh tonnes in the current season from 264 lakh tonnes in 2007-08 season (October to September). Meanwhile, sugar demand is estimated to be 233-240 lakh tonnes in the country.

“Today we are faced with a situation of low production, low stock, very high prices and insufficient availability of domestic sugar,” Mr Pawar said.

However, the steps taken by the government would help in increasing the domestic availability of sugar not only by imports but also by ensuring that surplus stock held by bulk consumers get released in the market.

Recently, the government extended the period of duty-free import of raw sugar without export obligation till December 2010 to help mills contract on a long-term basis so that domestic demand is met.

Mr Pawar further said due to fall in availability of sugarcane and sugar, the country is reeling under the pressure of high sugar prices. At present, sugar prices in the retail market are ruling at over Rs 35 per kg.

Updating current crop situation, Mr Pawar said most of the sugarcane producing states have received good rainfall as well as sunshine during August-September. “We therefore expect this will help in not only improving the yield of sugarcane per hectare but should also improve sucrose formation in the sugarcane, thereby improving the overall production of sugarcane and sugar,” he said.

Confusion prevails over Andhra CM's missing chopper

Confusion prevails over Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's missing helicopter
. The CM's whereabouts are still
unknown.

The chief minister's chopper has been missing since 9.35 am.

Andhra Pradesh finance minister A Rosaiah, during a press conference, said no contact has been established with the chief minister's chopper. Search and rescue operations are still on, he said. The state is coordinating with central agencies in Delhi to locate the CM's chopper. The PM's office is also in touch with the state government. Several helicopters- Indian Air Force
, state govt and private helicopters, are involved in search operations, he added.

The state govt's spokesperson added, "It is possible that because of the strong winds and heavy rains, it is possible it may have landed in some unfamiliar area. If you land in an unfamiliar forest area, getting out will be very difficult."

The state government has appealed to people for help and asked them to get in touch with the nearest police station if they have any information.

Just a short while ago (3.10 pm), Karnool SP B L Meena, had, however, told The Times of India that the chief minister's chopper had been located and a police team was going to escort him back to Hyderabad. The chopper had landed in Pamalupudu village in Karnool district, the SP said.

After the Andhra government's press conference, TOI tried to contact the Karnool SP, but in vain.

Minister for civil aviation Praful Patel had also said Reddy's helicopter had been located.

The CM left Hyderabad on a chopper at 8.35am this morning for Chittoor accompanied by his secretary and chief security officer but after 9.35am radio contact was lost with the government helicopter. This was when the chopper entered the thickly forested, Naxalite-infested Nallamalla hill range where it was raining heavily and visibility was extremely poor. The chief minister is on the hit-list of the Naxalites.

Himesh Reshammiya on Salman’s show!

It was well-known in the circles that Salman Khan and Himesh Reshammiya were engaged in cold war with each other sometime back. Well, the creases are said to be evened now.

Himesh Reshammiya had been on the sets of Salman Khan’s game show Dus ka Dum. Himesh was on the show to promote his forthcoming movie ‘Radio’ along with his co-stars Shenaz Treasuryvala and Sonal Sehgal.

Salman and Himesh had become loggerheads after they appeared together for a show few years back. Salman had made fun of Himesh’s nasal voice several times before while the latter had taken the comments tolerantly. But now, both seem to have made peace. Sources reveal that when Salman was consulted on inviting Himesh, the actor showed no apprehensions. In fact when the shooting happened Salman and Himesh were very comfortable with each other. “Unlike the past, Salman did not take any digs at Himesh. The shoot wrapped up much sooner than expected,” added sources.

Hmm, looks like its patch-up time! Can you relate another patch-up news for Salman?

Does Anyone Still Really Want To See Lindsay Naked?

We're actually rather surprised that we have YET to see Lindsay Lohan naked in Playboy, considering the crazy she totes around. It's soon to happen anyway. The bitch might as well get paid for it.

We're hearing from down under (Australia, you pervs!) that Miz LiLo is considering a spread in Playboy magazine. Hugh Hefner the bosses offered the tabloid starlet a half a million dollars offer to pose nude, but LiLo turned it down.

Honestly, what a slap in the face? A half mil barely covers her munchies bill for the week!

However, the powers that be over at Playboy really, really want her, so now the offer stands at $900K, a lump sum Linsanity is considering.

She's finally figuring out that a porn career is going to be WAY more lucrative for her than a legitimate acting career. Hollywood demands you have professionalism. Porn demands you have a vagina.

We see a successful road ahead for LiLo if this pans out.

Shazahn loses, kid wins

‘Rocket Singh’ heroine Shazahn Padamsee lost a bet with a kid, in a swimming race. Sources present on the spot revealed, “Every onlooker felt that Shazahn would beat the kid easily. The end result was a big surprise. Shazahn and the kid even had a bet on the outcome of the race, which obviously Shazahn lost.”

Meanwhile the pretty actress took it very sportily and said, “I didn’t mind it, it was fun. He said that if he beats me, I have to gift him a ticket to see Rocket Singh ... in the theatre. I’ll get that done when the film releases.”

Shazahn Padamsee will be stepping on screens for the first time with ‘Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year’. She is the daughter of noted Alyque Padamsee and Sharon Prabhakar.
