Nielsen blames Ishant Sharma's decline on lack of support

Australian cricket team coach Tim Nielsen believes that young Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma is not getting adequate support from the management or the coaching staff at a time when he is clearly declining from a form point of view.

Nielsen believes the sacking of fast bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad and fielding coach Robin Singh reflects grave fears about the development of Sharma and other young players.

"That's may be one of the reasons why they've changed their staff, trying to spark a bit of a change of message or voice to their younger players who might've gone a little off the boil over the last little while," Nielsen said.

"Sharma's an example of young players when they do start well there's expectation on them the whole way through, they find it difficult, they become targeted by opposition teams. Rather than being the second or third fast bowler in the group, you all of a sudden become the one everyone's very aware of," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Nielsen, as saying.

He also finds it amazing that Prasad and Singh had worked with the Indian team on a series-by-series basis since their appointment in 2007 and neither were ever permitted to sign a contract.

They were crudely informed of their removal via the Indian media, and there appear no plans to have fresh staff in position by the time the one-day series against Australia begins at Vadodara on Sunday.

"'I am deeply disappointed and hurt by the way in which it has been handled," Prasad told the Hindustan Times.

Chandrayaan: India leaves its mark on the Moon

Chandrayaan, India's solo mission to the moon, is symbolic of India's footprints on the Moon. Among the major breakthrough findings, country's first ever Moon probe, established the fact that there is water on the Moon.Chandrayaan, India's solo mission to the Moon, is also symbolic of country's footprints on the celestial body. On the first anniversary of Chandrayaan-1 launch, we recreate the magic of India's mission to the Moon.

Among the major breakthrough findings, country's first ever moon probe, established the fact that it generates water; that there is iron in its rock like structures; and that Apollo, the US fourth mission was not hoax.

The next sequel of the moon quest then boils down to the query if Moon is fit for habitation. NASA recently bombed Moon surface and has yet to come back with detailed findings on water probe. Chandrayaan established that water on the Moon is in molecular form and not in moisture or gas form.

Vettaikaran to Valiban for Anushka!

Here’s the latest buzz from our sources - Before starting on the last schedule of Gautham Menon’s ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ Silambarasan had got in touch with Andhra girl Anushka.

So what’s the reason behind this call? - was our question...

After completing this romantic entertainer with Trisha, Silambarasan will jump into the process of making his ‘Valiban’. Looks like the entire script of ‘Valiban’ is ready now.

Silambarasan had contacted Anushka for ‘Valiban’ through his producer S.S.Chakravarthy’s production manager. But, the beauty had replied that she will call back if her role in the film was a strong one. Following this Silambarasan had asked if he can contact Anushka through SMS. Instantaneously Anushka had called our hero and both had deep discussion over phone for nearly half an hour.

Know what? Sources say that Silambarasan will be narrating the script of ‘Valiban’ to Anushka as soon as he is back from the shoot of ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’. But even before that producer S.S.Chakravarthy’s people are trying their best to get the actress’s call-sheet.

Adadaa... Anushka is shifting from Vettaikaran to Valiban’s hands soon!?!

Tanisha goes to Hollywood

Bollywood actress Tanisha Mukherjee, who had acted in the 'Neevalle Neevalle', is all set to feature in a movie produced by a US studio. Reports say that Tanisha is in Los Angeles for the last few weeks preparing for the shoot.

If sources are to be believed, the actress, accompanied by her sister Kajol, met a couple of producers in Los Angles earlier this year, where they saw her previous work and agreed to rope in for their projects.

“She is playing an Indian girl who's recently relocated to the US and how she comes to terms with the clash in culture. She is happy to be the part of the project,” sources were quoted as saying.

It is also said that the actress is presently staying in LA with a friend and will only return once the shoot is complete. “She plans to extend her stay there if required, but as of now she's gone for a couple of months.”

Strength of narrative attracts Aswini Dutt

A new film by Prakash, a software engineer trained in New York Film Institute, has been launched with Navdeep, Kajal, Bindu Madhavi and Nikhil in the lead roles. Prakash's unique narrative reportedly spell binded ace producer Ashwini Dutt (of Vyjayanthi Movies) who gave a green signal to the project.

Three Angels, owned by Dutt's daughter, which recently produced Banam, is the banner under which this film titled Om Shanthi is going to be canned from first week of November.

Pretty girls Kajal Agarwal and Bindu Madhavi will be seen opposite Navdeep and Nikhil.

Navdeep, who hasn't had a single hit, is expected to become a name after Arya2's release (the young lad is playing an interesting role in the Allu Arjun-starrer).

Nikhil Siddharth of Happy Days too didn't strike gold since his debut film. Seems that Om Shanthi is a film that is coming with the weight of its story and script than names.

Kurbaan poster is symbolic – Kareena

‘Kurbaan’ is making noises with its bold visuals and steamy scenes. The ‘Kurbaan’ poster that has Kareena and Saif featuring topless is garnering lots of ooohs and aahs. The movie also promises sizzling lengthy lip-locks. But the lady who dared it out is pretty cool and confident about it.

The actress said that she didn’t feel awkward even once while shooting any scene for the film. “It's always easier to shoot for romantic and passionate scenes with someone you are dating, because of the comfort level. Also I am very close to Rensil D'Silva (the director) while Karan is like family and I trusted them completely. I knew whatever they shot would come out very classy. And the poster proves that,” revealed Kareena. She feels that everything in the poster is symbolic; like Saif's wound and her wet hair represents passion, sensuality and emotional violence.

“Kurbaan is a love story with an undertone of violence a combination of love and violence. Everyone - from my mom to my sister Karisma is eagerly waiting for Kurbaan to release. It will remain one of my top three favourite films along with Omkara and Jab We Met,” added the hot gal.

Yes, I’m back’ – Yash Chopra

An aggressive and aspiring entity wouldn’t keep away from the passions they’re always adhered to. Doubtlessly, the ace auteur of Indian cinema – Yash Chopra can be brought under the spotlights as the best exemplification… When most of the filmmakers do plan about getting relieved from filmmaking tasks in accordance to age factors, Yash Chopra is likely an exception.

After delivering the most cherishing flicks of all seasons – ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, ‘Chandni’, ‘Silsila’, ‘Trishul’, ‘Deewar’ and ‘Veer Zaara’, Yash Chopra is all set to wear the director’s hat again.

It isn’t a mere buzz, but something confirmed straight from shoulders of Yash Chopra as he received 55th National Awards representing his son Aditya for ‘Chak De India’. Interacting with media channels, the ace filmmakers cleared the airs saying that he will start the project by December. This romantic-entertainer will feature happening stars of B-town in lead roles and official confirmation is scheduled to be made in November…

Abhi-Ash come together for ad, first time

Finally here is the Bollywood’s most lovey-doevy couple gracing the ad scenario. Lux, the prominent soap brand, has roped in Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for its new range of soaps with beauty oils. Birdies have it that the couple were paid a huge amount for the commercial. Abhishek and Aishwarya will be seen together for the first time here as a couple, although they have given few movies together.

JWT Mumbai has handled the commercial and the ad is said to be directed by Stephen Mead. The background score has been given by composing trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Whereas, the costumes are done by designer Aki Narula and make-up by Mickey Contractor.

Going over the concept of the commercial, the makers of the ad wanted to show the couple in a way that they had never been seen before. According to Tista Sen, (executive creative director and senior vice-president at JWT India), “It’s a side of the couple that has never been seen before; it’s young, fun and in keeping with their real characters.”

The husband-and-wife celebrities will be featured in a very playful and naughty mood. Watch out for the ad releasing this month, people!

The seven-match one-day international series between India and Australia starts in Vadodara on October 25, 2009 and ends at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium on November 11. While Australia are coming off a thumping 6-1 victory against England before winning the Champions Trophy, India will look to make a fresh start after crashing out in the league stages of the CT in South Africa.

Virender Sehwag

Swashbucking Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag missed the Compaq Cup tri-series in Sri Lanka and the Champions Trophy as he was recovering from a shoulder injury. Sehwag got back into action at the 2009 Champions League, and a couple of his performances in that tournament for Delhi Daredevils show that he has fully recovered and is raring to make a statement on his return to international cricket against the Australians.

Prabhu Deva to launch Nayantara in Bollywood!?!

The grapevines are excited with the latest buzz. Our sizzling Nayantara is said to step into Bollywood!

Pokiri’s Hindi version ‘Wanted’ went on to become a huge hit and now the rumour mills are going over the movie’s sequel, titled as ‘Most Wanted’.

According to sources, the producer Boney Kapoor was keen to repeat the success magic by working with the same team again. So the director Prabhu Deva believed to have suggested Nayantara’s name for the female lead.

Boney, who knows about Nayantara’s fame down here, was glad to have her on board. However, the producer stated that nothing has been finalised as of now and they are still working on it.

Hmm, earlier we had it that Nayantara had specially travelled to Mumbai for Wanted’s screening for her beau. And now this news adds more spice to the couple’s relationship.

The Three Kings to unravel Parveen Babi’s secrets

Hollywood director Reynold Baines is going to bring up a film based on yesteryear actress Parveen Babi. Actress Shikha Puri - who had recently posed topless for a documentary film “The Dog” - will be seen playing Parveen Babi in the film “The Three Kings”. The film also features characters that bear some resemblance to Mahesh Bhatt, Kabir Bedi and Amitabh Bachchan.

Sources said that in the film, Shikha will pose nude for a bathroom scene. There are about 3-5 nude scenes in the film which will be made at a budget of Rs 10 crore. Shika Puri said that she has yet to officially sign the film. When queried about the nude scenes, she said, “As a professional actress, I have no problem doing nude scenes in front of the camera. The film depicts certain true aspects of Parveen Babi’s life, including her addiction to drugs like LSD in the later part of her life and her multiple love relationships.”

According to Executive Producer and script writer Flynn Remedios, Shikha has just signed the film and we are “yet to get the final script.” The film is in Hinglish and is primarily targeted at an international audience, but will also be screened in India, he said.

Flynn Remedios added that as the script writer, he has been researching the project for the last three years. “I have unearthed certain untold secrets of Parveen Babi’s latter life, including footage of scenes she shot which were never shown on screen. Then there were certain aspects of her love life that haven’t been told yet.” We are trying to get Mahesh Bhatt to be part of this project, he added.

Deepika turns to smoking

No, no this lass has not got into the habit. In fact, Deepika Padukone has got into the character of a smoker for her film.

In her forthcoming film ‘Karthik Calling Karthik’, Deepika plays a very modern girl who smokes. In the course of the movie she is advised by the hero, played by Farhan Aktar, to forgo it. According to sources, Deepika hates smoking in real life. The very thought of smoking for the film was enough to make her tense. However, producer Ritesh Sidhwani ordered for nicotine-free cigarettes and the actress made up her mind to go ahead with it.

Now, this has also served a purpose according to the producer. “It’s a film about a lovable loser and a modern, hip girl. Farhan makes Deepika quit smoking. So we have a nice message in the end. We didn’t want to be responsible for inculcating a bad habit and that’s why these organic cigarettes were needed,” justified Sidhwani.

So, guys, here we have Deepika to smoke you out!

Priyan wants Aamir and Tabu together

Priyadarshan has almost completed his multi-starrer ‘De Dana Dan’ and is gearing up for his next on AIDS. Aamir Khan was already confirmed for the project and now, he’s trying pull in Tabu for the female lead. Of course, this will be the first time they’ll be spotted together in a film. Though, they had starred together in ‘Fanaa’, the duo didn’t have any scenes to perform together.

Filmmaker Priyadarshan confirms saying that Aamir Khan has already signed the deal and talks are going on with Tabu to pair up with him. Also Priyan mentioned that he wanted to make this film a year back in time, but wanted to experiment with audiences’ reaction over his offbeat film ‘Kanchivaram’. And now with the film winning laurels across the Nation, he’s more confident with this realistic cinema.

Totting up about the project, he said, “It will take 3 more months to complete the script works. Pulling in an actor like Aamir Khan will gradually help in drawing more attention from wider-range of audiences…

Bomb blast rocks Islamabad university: police

Police say two explosions have been heard on the campus of a university in the Pakistani capital. Police officer Mohammad Aslam says there was no word on casualties as a result of the Tuesday's blasts.

He says they took place on the campus of the International Islamic University in Islamabad. Students from around the world attend the campus. Most take Islamic studies.

According to the Pakistani media, one person has died and eight others have been injured in the explosion.

Support offensive against insurgents

Pakistan's army chief has appealed to members of a major tribe linked to the Taliban to support an offensive against the insurgents, a move aimed at further isolating an enemy blamed for a wave of bloodshed in the nuclear-armed, U.S.-allied nation.

The Pakistani military's operation against the Pakistani Taliban in South Waziristan is considered its most critical fight against Islamist extremists threatening its stability, and its strategy involves convincing other warlords and tribes in the region to stand aside during the fight, even if they are involved in anti-U.S. activities in Afghanistan.

Army chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani's letter -- dropped as leaflets from the air in South Waziristan -- was addressed to the Mehsud tribe, whose members populate the top ranks of the Pakistani Taliban, a group bent on overthrowing the central government.

The Mehsuds are a huge tribe with several subsections. Many members live far from the tribal badlands, and are involved in a range of professions and businesses. The tribe dominates Pakistan's transport sector.

Female Sportspersons who have appeared for Sports Illustrated magazine

Hot and happening! Sizzlers on the playing field and off it too. MSN India brings to you the list of ladies who have posed for Sports Illustrated. The players include the likes of Steffi Graf and the bootylicious Anna Kournikova. Warning: These images can cause harm!In 2000, Kournikova became the new face for a company selling shock absorber sports bras, and appeared in the "only the ball should bounce" billboard campaign. A skimpily clad Kournikova has appeared in various men's magazines, like the 2004 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, where she posed in bikinis and swimsuits, and in other popular men's publications such as FHM and Maxim. Kournikova was named one of People's 50 Most Beautiful People in 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2003 and was voted "hottest female athlete"

India's Best Dressed List 2009

The past year was rough. The dreaded 'R' word popped up everywhere. It was the survival of the fittest and the cheapest. Women bought relatively inexpensive items. Lipstick sales were good. Fashion sales were not (at full price); so tabs were slashed. Designers restrategised and redefined haute. Boyfriend chic (borrow his clothes since you have no new ones), vintage (borrow grandma's for similar reasons) and power shoulders (intimidate at work-place so they do not fire you) rose to prominence. Even couture in Paris offered (hush hush) 'package deals' to their loyal customers. Suddenly, apparel was available at almost lipstick prices. What joy... let us buy everything!

Now the True Blue Fashionista (TBF) has been waiting for just this. She knows that the recession is not simply a challenge, but also a golden opportunity. This is the process that, just like separating solitaires from paste, will leave the wannabe riff- raff far, far behind on the sartorial run (way). Instead of being trampled on at a closing sale, the TBF has picked up investment-worthy pieces, full price. And updated her personal version of the season's trends, in her own style.

Verve has kept a close watch on these leaders of India's stylish pack. We have an edited list this year, including many known faces, a few unknown ones and have given some of our perennials (who have surpassed 'judgement' and 'list-worthiness' and form a league of their own) a breather. What is reassuring is the collective 'style, not trends' statement which resounds, proving that fashion's mindset has matured

‘Magadheera’ comes to Chennai this Pongal

How will it be if we get to watch a movie that is a mixture of modern technology, local flavor and a fairytale script? Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan Teja's second film ‘Magadheera’ is that kind of a flick. And the movie is coming to haunt Tamil audience this Pongal. What, surprised?

We will have the dubbed version of ‘Magadheera’ as a Pongal bonanza.

‘Magadheera’ directed by S.S. Rajamouli and produced by Allu Aravind under the banner of Gita Arts is ready to fill its pocket here too. The film is about rebirth of the lovers who lived before 400 years. Interesting right?

During the time when ‘Magadheera’ got released in Andhra, people in Chennai wanted to see the film and it turning out to be a flop show! Not even a single pirated VCD was available in as police officials from Andhra were camped in Chennai to prevent the supply of pirated copies.

Any way now we can enjoy the film on the big screen for Pongal!

Vinnaithandi Varuvaya in NY

The team of ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ is busy with its last schedule of shooting in New York. While the Goutham Menon and the team flew a couple of days before, Silambarasan and Trisha took their flight on 16th October.

Diwali or no Diwali, stars are busy at work and same way the team of ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ had to pass the Diwali day in NY (How sad…). But then, hoping to create an unseen charm Silambarasan and Trisha are gearing up with their best for this Goutham Menon product.

We hear that movie will be a breezy romantic entertainer and it has been shot across the exotic locales of Chennai, Kerala and Malta Island. Goutham makes sure his audiences are taken on a visual trip around the locations he shoots. And now we can be sure to see the best locales of NY

Shriya’s favorite person

Shriya is one of the hottest actresses in the circuit. She might have many fans who would probably go to any extreme to impress her. But there is one individual whom Shriya loves a lot.

The person is none other than the yesteryear dream girl Hema Malini. Speaking about her, Shriya said that she loves Hema for her class and poise and the way she carries herself in the industry.

She added that Hema was indeed a dream girl and hopes that one day, even she can reach her stage. For now, Shriya has not been able to score much success at the box office though she has movies lined up.

So once that thing sorts out then she can focus on the Dream Girl tag. Good luck Shriya on that one.

Gopichand ready for his next venture

Aggressive star Gopichand is known for his dominating roles and his spirited performances. The angry young man of today’s cinema is all set for his next venture.

Sources say that this movie will be produced by Venkat under the banner of RR Movie makers. The cast and the crew have not been decided and the filmmakers still seem to be working out on the same.

Meanwhile the highlight is that the heroine will be none other than the sensuous Anushka. With Anushka riding her success wave, this movie too should add to her list of hits.

Well folks get ready for some high adrenaline movie from the aggressive Gopichand.

Ranbir, the new kid on YRF’s block

The grapevines are buzzing with the latest buzz that Ranbir Kapoor has been roped by the Bollywood’s favourite banner Yash Raj Films. The actor has already three YRF’s films in his portfolio, with ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ and soon-to-be releasing ‘Rocket Singh Salesman of the Year’. And now he will be seen next in Aditya Chopra’s untitled directorial.

First it was the King Khan, who did three movies with Aditya (Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Mohabbatein and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi) and now it looks like Ranbir is following the suit. Sources said that the director was keen to bring out ‘Dhoom 3’, however, due to lack of a proper script, the movie was stalled. Then he had plans to work with Shah Rukh, but the actor is having his hands full with ‘Don 2’ and Farah Khan's film ‘Happy New Year’. So Aditya started on with a fresh young love story, with Ranbir in mind.

For more info on this, we have to wait and watch...

Once upon a time in Mumbai with Ajay & Kangana

His ‘All the Best’ successfully added up as the fun-dose to the Diwali festival. Then he is waiting for his next flick, ‘London Dreams’. Ajay Devagn is truly savouring his work commitments one by one.

The actor will be seen with slim hottie Kangana Ranaut in Milan Luthria’s ‘Once Upon A Time in Mumbai’. The movie is a period film and also stars Emraan Hashmi and Prachi Desai. One can look forward to see Ajay in the shades of ‘Company’, for his character here is said to be based on Mumbai don Haji Mastan. Most of the movie’s shooting shot in South Mumbai as that depicts a lot from the 70’s and 80’s with its colonial styled buildings, according to the director.

Currently, the director is busy with the second schedule of the movie with Kangana, Emraan and Prachi. It is said that Ajay will take over the last schedule in December.

Aftab to say Aao Wish Karein

After being a sighing lover boy in ‘Kambakth Ishq’, Aftab Shivdasani will be next seen in a fairy tale targeted at the families.

‘Aao Wish Karein’ will have Aftab along with Aamna Sharif who had co-stared with him in ‘Aloo Chaat’. The movie will be bannered under Mumbai Mantra Media Ltd and the movie is said to be based on a boy’s fantasy to turn into a grownup.

According to sources, Aftab Said, “Aao Wish Karein is an honest effort and that makes it endearing to anyone who’s been a part of this journey. It’s simple, sweet, funny and has exceptionally soulful music. This is the kind of film that would appeal to kids and teenagers, mamas and papas, grandpas and grannies too.”

Hmm, with such movies coming-up, looks like the industry is gearing up to impress the younger junta… Think ‘Aladin’…

Obama scripting billion dollar opportunity for Indian IT players

Indian top-tier information technology services companies, who were banking on the recession-proof healthcare sector to tide over uncertainty, are now seeing multi-billion dollar opportunities from the healthcare space in the US, especially the Obama administration’s proposed American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan. The chances that US President Obama will achieve a near-universal healthcare system have dramatically improved after a lone Republican, Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine, prepared to vote with Democrats for a compromise proposal. This gives Obama a much better chance of achieving the 60 votes he needs to pass a Bill in the Senate.

The plan, which proposes to create Electronic Health Records (EHRs) for all Americans by 2014 with an investment of $20 billion, can open up new vistas of opportunities for Indian IT services firms including Infosys, Wipro, TCS and MindTree in areas of EHR implementations, upgrade, integration and interoperability-related works.

"Obama's stimulus plan proposes to allocate $150 billion to healthcare. Of this, nearly $20 billion is proposed for healthcare IT alone, most of which is expected to be spent on Electronic Health Records. This allocation, as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, is opening up the healthcare IT market like never before. It is bringing in a host of opportunities for EHR vendors, healthcare IT service providers and hospital systems," says Rajiv Shah, Senior Vice-President, Healthcare Services SBU (strategic business unit), Wipro Technologies.

Other than the EHR implementation and upgrade, he says the proposed Act has brought new opportunities for service providers to engage more closely with EHR vendors, which can open up more strategic partnerships and alliances.

"The Obama administration's healthcare plan will benefit not just Infosys but also many other Indian IT services companies. We see this as an area of significant opportunity for the future, and that is an area where we are investing now. IT will play a significant role in bringing down the healthcare costs as proposed under the plan," agrees S Gopalakrishnan, CEO and MD of Infosys Technologies

Chinese PM wants to meet Manmohan Singh in Thailand

Amid recriminations on border issues, Chinese premier Wen Jiabao has shown keen interest in meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Thailand next week.

He indicated his interest to Petroleum Minister Murli Deora who met the Chinese leader during his visit to Beijing to attend a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meet on Wednesday.

"He (Jiabao) asked if Manmohan Singh will be going to Thailand next week to which I replied yes. Twice or thrice he said he is looking forward to meeting Manmohan Singh (in Thailand)," Deora told reporters here after his return.

Singh will be travelling to Thailand on October 24 to attend the ASEAN Summit.

China's objection to Singh's recent visit to Arunachal led to a war of words between the two countries

Deepika does cameo for Salman

Main Aurr Mrs Khanna enters the cinema halls today, and here is a buzz that slipped out from the movie. It is reported that tall beauty Deepika Padukone is in the movie, although in a brief role. Deepika has done a guest appearance here. Although we know what her role in this is, we can’t reveal much for the sake of robbing out the suspense.

Now, if one goes back to the launch history of this lass, Deepika was introduced by SRK, who is in fact doesn’t share good rapport with Sallu miyaan. But Deepika had no qualms as such and went ahead with the movie.

To go over the movie titbits, the ‘Main’ in ‘Main Aurr Mrs Khanna’ is played by Sohail Khan. The movie is a directorial debut of Prem Soni. The movie is based on two people – Emraan Hashmi and Soha Ali Khan – who meet during the calamity after a long gap.

Said the producer, “I made a suggestion to Kunal to change the title of the film. The new title should have mass appeal so that more people can relate to the film.” But the director Kunal Deshmukh was not in a favour to do so. “Kunal has his own arguments about Tum Mile being apt, but we will sort out the issue soon,” stated Bhatt.

Festival demand takes gold to a new high of Rs 16,120

Gold rose to a record high in Mumbai on overseas guidance as rising oil prices and a weak dollar bolstered the yellow metal to a new all-time peak on Tuesday.

In Mumbai, standard gold touched a high of Rs 16,120 per 10 gm, a rise of Rs 190 from on Tuesday. The bullion had earlier touched a record high of Rs 15,980 on September 16. The booming festival demand helped the metal achieve this level.

I did what I thought was right: Younis

Anguished and perplexed by the stinging criticism he faced after Pakistan's semi-final loss in the Champions Trophy, Younis Khan says a feeling of being betrayed by people in the echelon of power pushed him into resigning from captaincy.

"I did what I thought was the right thing. I have worked very hard to keep this team united for the last eight months despite problems. So when anyone accuses me or the team of fixing matches then I have no option but to resign," Younis said.

Younis said apart from being hurt by allegations of match fixing, there were some other issues as well that prompted him to hand over his resignation to Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ejaz Butt.

"I don't want to elaborate on them but the last eight months have been tough for me and I have still tried to do my best as captain and player to unite the team," he said.

"I played with a broken finger in the Champions Trophy because I wanted the team to do well. I have always tried to lead from the front. I may have made some mistakes but my intentions have only been for the betterment of the team and Pakistan cricket," he added.

Younis said after putting in so much effort, it was natural for him to feel upset when fingers were pointed at his decisions and the team's performances.

Younis also indicated that he was not satisfied with the board's way of dealing with certain issues concerning the team.

"I will have a very frank discussion with the Chairman of the board whenever he invites me to discuss my resignation because some issues need to be sorted out like the term of my captaincy," he said.

Younis said he was astonished by the sharp criticism as he had led the team to the Twenty20 World Cup title just a few months ago.

"As captain in the last eight months I have set certain goals for myself and the team and I just want to know what this criticism against me is about. Has the team not shown any improvement in the last eight months? Is there no difference in the performance of the side now?" he asked.

Sources said Younis is also upset at the way the board Chairman had been entertaining the team officials and some players in separate meetings without bothering to talk to him.

Younis said he would not like to be called for any hearing of the parliamentary body in future as his job was to perform as a player and not to give explanations to everyone about the team's performance.

"The board and team officials are the ones who are the right people to give answers if anyone wants to know anything about the team," he said.

Genelia: Four for sure

Guess the one actress who is equally busy in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada film industries? She is Genelia D’Souza. Ever since she took her first steps in Bollywood with ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam’ and in Tamil with Shankar’s ‘Boys’, there's no looking back for this girl.

“I delivered a super hit each in four languages – Satya (Kannada), Santosh Subramaniyam (Tamil), Ready (Telugu) and Jaane Tu ...Ya Jaane Naa (Hindi). I guess I am the only heroine who delivered four super hits in four languages in one year,” says the proud actress.

There is one more feather in the cap of hers. “I am the heroine in all the three languages of Bommarillu. It gives me immense satisfaction. The Telugu film was made in Tamil as Santosh Subramaniyam and in Hindi as It’s My Life,” she says.

As an actress with experience in four languages, which one do you prefer to act? To this question, Genelia’s answer is: “I enjoy doing films in all languages. Script is the first factor I look into. I don’t mind doing a five-minute role if it’s worth it. Secondly I should have comfort level with director/producer I work with. Language is never the criterion for me.”

Suriya's clarification on his speech

Clearing the air that his family has been maintaining a cordial relationship with the press for the past four decades, Suriya said on Monday that his utterances at a protest meet organised by the ‘Nadigar Sangam’ has been twisted out of contest.

“I respect the media a lot. I in fact told at the protest venue itself that media job is a noble profession. However, like in any other field, there are good and bad elements in the media too. Even me too is a victim of that,” he said.

Stating that his remarks were only against such bad elements, the actor said it did not apply to the entire press community. “The journalists are well aware of the respect we have been showing at them for the past 40 years,” he said.

Meanwhile, a senior journalist on Monday moved the Madras High Court demanding action against Tamil actors for their alleged derogatory and defamatory statements against journalists and their families.

He said action has been sought against actors Vivek, Sripriya, Vijayakumar, Sathyaraj, Arun Kumar and Suriya, for their ‘inflammatory remarks’ against the media at the protest meeting, organised to condemn a Tamil daily for publishing a report about actresses allegedly involved in prostitution.

“The news editor of the daily was arrested two days after a complaint by the actors. But no action has been taken against complaints filed against actors by journalists. A CD containing the speeches made by the six actors will be played to the judge when the case comes up for hearing,” said V Anbazhagan, president of the Chennai Union of Journalists (CUJ).

Here is the press release from actor Suriya…
