The Foreign Trip Could Be Partially Funded - Sports Ministry
Last year, the sports minister, M.S.Gill upgraded the status of football and placed it in the priority list of the ministry, as a result of which, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) stands a chance to avail financial assistance.
According to a senior official from the sports ministry, the Indian FA approached the ministry only last week, while the ideal process is to table the quotation at least two-to-three months prior to the tour.
“Though we have no issues with them approaching us late, as probably they are not used to the process having been included in the priority list only last year.
“We have asked some more documents and quotations from them. Just by stating that the total cost is so much, it doesn’t help. In a government system, we need all the details. We shall evaluate the benefits of the trip and thereby, take a decision in the next couple of days,” said the official on anonymous grounds.
It is also learnt that should the ministry give green signal to provide some financial support for the trip, it might only be a partial one.
“The budget is around one and a half crore. A large contingent of players are travelling, I believe it’s 34. I don’t think, we would fund it completely but maybe partially.
“Since they approached us only last week, I guess they would have gone independently as well without our financial support,” added the official
