Rajan P Dev is no more


Veteran character actor Rajan P. Dev, one of the front line artists of Mollywood died in Kochi today. He was 59.

The actor was under treatment for liver disease for quite along time. He was admitted at Lake Shore Hospital after found vomiting blood. He is survived by his wife Santha, daughter Ashamma and son Jibile Raj.

An actor’ who was in the industry for the last two decades played noticeable roles in around two hundred films, including the few that he had done in Tamil and Telugu.

Born in Chertala in Alappuzha district, Dev began his career as a theatre artist. He later formed his own drama troupe and became famous with the role of Kochuvava in the popular drama ‘Kaattu Kuthira’. He turned to a big screen name with his role in Indrajaalam, which was a big hit with the masses. His own style of punch line presentations, dialogues delivery and mannerisms has created a permanent place for him in the Mollywood commercial cinema, particularly in this decade, where he was seen continuously playing second fiddle and bigger roles as villain and comedian, even in every superstar films.

His last release in Malayalam was the Mammootty movie ‘Ee Patanathil Bhootham’ which is currently in theatres, while his recent release in Tamil was ‘Malayan’ which came out last week.

The Funeral ceremony will be held at St. Xavier’s church in Karukutti on Thursday at 11am.
